I love eating salads that have a lot of salad dressing but, unfortunately, sometimes I get it all over my clothes. The other day I even spilled some on my carpet which almost gave me a heart attack because it is my favourite carpet.

However, despite this I was quick with cleaning the affected area and now there is no sight of staining.

How to remove salad dressing stains from clothes?

Evenn if your instincts tell you to wipe or rub the stain with a napkin – DON’T! It will make everything much worse because you will push the dressing deeper into the fibers.

Grab a cloth and blot the stain so that you can absorb the oil first. If the dressing is creamy grab a spoon and lift off the excess instead.

Continue with sprinkling the stain either with baby powder, baking soda, or cornstarch. This will make sure that any grease/ oil is absorbed which will make the cleaning easier.

After 15 minutes remove the powder by brushing it off.

Then you need to treat the stain with your laundry detergent. Pour some directly on the stain, rub the fabric with your fingers for a while and then let it sit for 15 minutes. Continue with rinsing the laundry detergent and throwing the clothing item in the washing machine.

How to remove salad dressing stains from a carpet/ upholstery?

Grab a spoon as soon as you spill the salad dressing and remove as much as possible. Then sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch all over the affected area in order to absorb the oil/ grease and leave it for 15 minutes.

Continue with vacuuming the powder.

Then mix two cups of hot water with a tablespoon of liquid soap and a tablespoon of household ammonia. Dip a sponge in the mixture and blot the stain. Once you are done blot the area with a cloth in order to remove the mixture.

The last step is “rinsing” the stain so that the soapy water is completely removed. You can do that by dipping a clean cloth in water and blotting the area.
