Do you want to know about a common cleaning mistake a lot of people make? Not washing their pillows! This is probably one of the biggest mistakes people make. No one really talks about how important this cleaning chore really is!

This really needs to be on top of your priority list and you shouldn’t forget it. The good news is that washing pillows are one of the easiest things you could do – you just need to throw them in your washing machine and launder them. That’s it! Just like that, your pillows will be disinfected and cleaned!

Why Is Washing Your Pillows So Important?

Ever since I was little, my mother used to always tell me that washing pillows are one of the most important cleaning chores out there. She used to wash them once every month – and she still does that to this day! It’s a cleaning chore she doesn’t compromise with and always finds the time to do it. This is why I developed this as a habit – once every month I gather all pillows that are in my bedroom and I wash them.

Why is this so important? Well, just like anything else in your home, your pillows tend to absorb a lot of dirt, dust, and all sorts of other impurities. They also absorb body liquids and… germs. Yes, your pillow is indeed a breeding ground for germs. This can cause a number of different issues like skin irritation, acne, breakouts, eye irritation, etc.

You most likely focus on cleaning your mattress once every few months because it absorbs a lot of impurities. This is exactly what happens with your pillows as well. The only difference is that you place a mattress cover, sheets, and you put on your pajamas when you go to bed – which is why you can easily clean your mattress once or twice a year.

Unfortunately, your pillows get even dirtier than your mattress because the only thing sitting between all the impurities and the pillow is… the pillowcase. On top of that, you don’t put anything on your face or hair when you go to bed – meaning that all those impurities transfer to your skin.
